Lighthouse Labs Bootcamp Students Now Eligible for Student Aid in Alberta and British Columbia Par :Jenny Scribani July 4, 2019 Estimated reading time: 1 minutes. We are so excited to announce that our full-time Web Development bootcamp is now eligible for government Student Aid in British Columbia! This marks the second province to grant student loan designations, following Alberta’s approval in 2018. Now students attending Lighthouse Labs bootcamps in Vancouver and Calgary can apply for financial assistance through StudentAid. Which Programs Are Eligible? Currently, only our full-time Web Development Bootcamp program is eligible for student loans in BC and Alberta. At this time, our part-time programs are not eligible for Student Aid. Who Can Apply? Residents of British Columbia and Alberta can apply for Student Aid if they plan to attend the full-time Web Development Bootcamp at Lighthouse Labs locations in Calgary, Vancouver, and Victoria. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or have protected person status, and have a valid Canadian social insurance number. Our other locations are not yet designated for student loans, so residents of Alberta and British Columbia are unable to apply for student loans to attend bootcamp at other sites (e.g. Toronto or Montreal). If you currently live in another province and you wish to attend Lighthouse Labs in Alberta or British Columbia, you must apply through your home province’s Student Aid system (e.g. OSAP) to request that the Lighthouse Labs Calgary or Vancouver location also be designated by your home province. How Do I Apply? You can apply online directly through StudentAid. Simply visit the student aid website for Alberta or British Columbia for more information on how to apply in your province. Do I Need To Be Accepted To Bootcamp First? No. Once your application is received by the government in Alberta or British Columbia, Lighthouse Labs will receive an email with confirmation documents to complete. Remember: the full-time Web Development Bootcamp program starts two weeks before the start of in-class bootcamp, and Student Aid confirmation can take six weeks or more. Make sure you begin your application process at least two months before the start of the in-class bootcamp! Are There Other Financing Options Available? We understand that attending Bootcamp is a big decision for many reasons, including financial. We never want finances to be a barrier to students receiving a career-changing education. That’s why we’re working hard to be recognized for student loans at all of our locations across Canada. Lighthouse Labs qualifies for a Scholarship Award exclusively for Albertans who identify as female and are enrolled in a "program that will advance gender equality and promote self-advocacy of women, including studying in fields where women are under-represented." We have a few other financing resources available to help you navigate payment for your Lighthouse Labs tuition. If you have any questions, reach out to us! We’d love to help, and we can’t wait to see you in Bootcamp.
