WHAT DO DATA ANALYSTS DO?

The world of data analysts includes a whole range of specializations. Here are a few of them.

Data Analyst

Data Analysts work with technical resources to identify a stakeholder’s best approach using the right databases and tools. Working to make sense of large, unsorted amounts of data, analysts establish a workflow while working with the client to automate their processes.

Business Analyst

Business Analysts apply their knowledge of designing, developing, and testing software to evaluate an organization’s business and IT systems. They make recommendations to reduce inefficiencies and costs, and identify ways to streamline the business’ structure.

Marketing Analyst

Marketing Analysts gather, clean, and sort data to provide marketing insights to a company. They review marketing campaign results, use tools to understand current consumer trends, and research competitors to help the company improve their marketing efforts.

FAQ

  • What is the difference between Data Analytics and Data Science?

Data analysts use past data to draw meaningful insights, identify trends, develop charts, solve problems and help businesses make more strategic decisions. They analyze well-defined sets of data using different tools to answer tangible business questions.

Data Scientists estimate and predict the unknown by asking questions, writing algorithms, and building predictive models to help businesses make more strategic decisions. Data scientists are typically tasked with designing data modeling processes, as well as creating algorithms and predictive models to extract the information needed by an organization to solve complex problems.

  • Do I get a diploma upon graduation?

While our philosophy isn’t based around credentials and instead seeks to set you up with the tools you need to be a lifelong effective, adaptive, and curious learner throughout your career — we do award Bootcamp and Flex Program digital diplomas upon graduation.

  • Can I leave Data Science if I find it too hard and switch to Data Analytics?

No, this is not possible at this time.

  • Are there any prerequisites for Data Analytics? Do I need programming experience?

No, there are no prerequisites for Data Analytics. Experience in math, stats, or coding would undoubtedly be an asset but is not required. No previous data science, data analysis, or programming experience is required to attend Lighthouse Labs.

  • Why are you offering Data Analytics?

Lighthouse Labs recognizes the importance data plays in the tech world and is committed to filling the gaps in data analyst roles. This is achieved by offering an industry-aligned curriculum that best prepares you for success in entry-level positions. Data roles are in demand across every industry, with various requirements for skills and experience. By offering both Data Analytics and Data Science, we're committing to filling the talent gaps for both.

  • Can I complete the Data Science program immediately after completing the Data Analytics program?

No, this is not possible at this time.

  • I’m afraid I’m not good at math/stats, can I take this course?

Data Analytics is based on our Data Science curriculum with a special focus on the specific skills necessary to land analyst roles. The concepts found in later modules of Data Science, such as Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence, are left out. Data Analytics students will be introduced to math and statistical concepts several times throughout the program in a way that is directly applicable to how they’ll work on the job. Data Analytics is more focused on collecting data, visualizing and presenting findings clearly and concisely to answer questions and inform business decisions.

Experience in statistics would certainly be an asset in this program, but it is not required. If you have concerns about your abilities, our logic and technical tests are in place to ensure this is the right program for you. Additionally, part of the prep work for this program involves reviewing foundational statistics to make sure everyone enters the program on a level playing field. These basic concepts will then be built upon later in the program.

  • I'm not sure which program to take. How can I decide?

Your next career move should take your existing skills, interests, goals, and experiences into consideration. You already possess specific skills like problem-solving, creativity, or leadership that can be leveraged into your ideal tech career. All that's missing are the right tech skills: this is where Lighthouse Labs comes in, equipping you with the necessary tools to succeed. We put together the Tech Skills Quiz that aligns your abilities with the best tech career choice and which program to take to get there. Take the quiz today and discover your perfect tech career match.

  • What do career outcomes look like for Data Analytics?

Potential entry-level roles for Data Analytics graduates include Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Marketing Analyst, Operations Analyst, and Research Analyst.

The current median salary for Data Analysts in Canada is $66,900. Other roles, including Business Analyst, Marketing Analyst and Research Analyst, have salaries ranging from $55,000 - $70,000.

As with many tech roles, Data Analyst positions have great potential for career growth, mobility, and the ability to work from home full-time or on a hybrid basis.

  • What is the difference between a Bootcamp and a Flex Program?

Both bootcamps and flex programs cover the same material. Students of both will become familiar with their chosen program's fundamental concepts and techniques. The key difference between these delivery formats is the structure. A Flex program has lectures two days a week over a more extended period of time, whereas a Bootcamp is a more intense, full-time experience. These two programs accommodate a wider variety of student lifestyles, priorities, and preferred learning paces so that students can strike a balance that works for them without compromising on quality.
